Salento is a wonderful land south of Puglia, the heel of Italy’s boot. It prides itself on beautiful beaches and colourful ocean floors, carsic parts and underground springs, like for example the Idume river, that runs underneath the city of Lecce, Salento is an area rich in art heritage cities and extraordinary towns, like Lecce, considered as the Florence of the south or the Lady of Baroque, a city with ancient messapic origins (Messapia=land between two seas) and monuments that give us a glimpse of the roman influence and the richness and exuberance of the baroque of the 60’s . There are many boroughs in the heel of Italy’s boot: Otranto also called the Eastern door, Gallipoli, the Pearl of the Ionium , Specchia Italy’s jewel, Nardò once a very important Byzantine center and many more… It’s a land of delicious traditional dishes for everyone’s taste: mainly vegetables and fish, accompanied by DOC fine wines like Negramaro and Primitivo. Particularly widespread is the musical tradition of pizzica and tarantismo. These manifestations, now emptied of their original traditional and anthropological tradition, following modern developments in the area of music and dance have become a new cultural phenomenon that uniquely characterizes this land.
